A leader in Jordan’s sustainable tourism development, Baraka Destinations is a Jordanian social enterprise that aims to create meaningful tourism experiences while supporting local communities.

Baraka Destination was founded by Jordanian firm, BARAKA Consulting and other local and international professionals who believe in the importance of sustainable tourism. Since its establishment, Baraka Destinations has aimed to collectively work with local communities in secondary tourism sites to create tourism experiences that promote and benefit their hometowns.

Most of Baraka’s projects are located in remote areas usually missed by tourists, hoping to expose travelers to new areas and experiences across Jordan. Additionally, Baraka works with “clients to design, build and implement tourism strategies that leave minimal impacts on the environment and maximum benefits for local communities while catering to the expectations of today’s experienced traveler.”

Baraka Destinations offers an array of activities that not only highlight the local communities’ culture and unique characteristics but also offer tourists and visitors memorable experiences. Most of these activities are hands-on experiences and guided by local guides or members of the community. They are offered in the cities of Umm Qais in Jordan’s northern region and the ancient city of Pella.

In Umm Qais, Baraka offers a two to three-hour olive picking activity whereby tourists will visit olive fields with a local guide, take part in the olive picking process, and visit an olive press. Additionally, guests can partake in a stone masonry lesson where they will learn how to mason their own piece of stone and learn about the historic form of art.

Moreover, in Pella, Barak offers a hiking experience for those who enjoy outdoor activities. The hiking trail is filled with pine trees and valleys and is led by an experienced local guide. Guests also have the unique opportunity to meet a local shepherded and learn how the shepherd cares for sheep while on a stroll through Pella’s beautiful landscapes.
