Experience Jordanian Wildlife

Jordan’s wildlife consists of incredible species and beautiful landscapes, including Arabian oryxes and water buffalos, and through various adventure options to choose from, anyone can experience the kingdom's wildlife. Different experiences and tours in Jordan offer visitors the opportunity to hike, dive, camp, or drive through Jordan’s wildlife. For example, people can embark on a journey with an expert guide to the Shaumari Wildlife Reserve in the Jordanian city of Azraq to spot gazelles, the Arabian oryx, and various birds, especially since Azraq hosts over 300 species of migratory birds. Visitors will also learn about the history of the oryx and the ongoing breeding and conservation efforts that are in place to protect Jordan’s wild animals.

Additionally, those who enjoy hiking can venture into Jordan’s largest nature reserve, the Dana Nature Reserve where they can spot the incredible diversity of birds, large insects, reptiles, and the rock hyrax. They can also choose to embark on a water buffalo and bird-watching trek at the tranquil Azraq Wetland Reserve.

Moreover, Al Ma’wa for Nature and Wildlife is a Jordanian organization that is home to rescued wildlife. It was established in 2011 through a partnership between the Princess Alia Foundation, a non-governmental organization in Jordan, and the international animal welfare organization, Four Paws.

It aims to rescue and rehabilitate injured and orphaned native wildlife and provide a permanent home for native species that are unable to survive in the wild. It comprises of about 270 acres and provides appropriate areas and conditions for the species. It has currently rescued 34 animals, including bears, lions, racoons, and tigers. 

Jordan’s wildlife is certainly unique; whether its spotting birds or hiking through valleys to spot an oryx, these various experiences offer different adventures in Jordan’s wildlife.
