A road trip across Jordan, especially during the fall season when the sky is clear and the weather is pleasant, is the perfect way to experience its culture, people, and places.

Here are some of our favorite road trips in Jordan.

A Trip to the North

On a road trip to the north of Jordan, one can stop by the ancient Ajloun Castle, which served as an important defensive chain against the Crusaders, and visit the Greco-Roman ruins of the historic Gadara city in Umm Qais.

An Off-Road Desert Adventure

Jordan’s incredible Wadi Rum desert that is filled with red-colored sand dunes and massive mountains offers visitors a desert driving experience. For those who have a four-wheel drive and want to explore the desert on their own, they can opt for the self-drive adventure tour organized by Wadi Rum Desert Eyes or ride on one of their jeeps through the desert.

A Trip to the Lowest Point on Earth

A road trip from Jordan’s capital city of Amman to the Dead Sea allows one to stop by the city of Madaba that is famous for its beautiful Byzantine mosaics and churches, and then head to Mount Nebo, which is believed to be the place where prophet Moses died and was buried. The trip ends by reaching the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea.

A Drive to the Red Sea

A four-hour road trip can get you from Amman to Aqaba, Jordan’s coastal city on the Red Sea. On the way, you can stop by the city of Karak, known for the historic Karak Castle, and the Dana Biosphere Reserve, Jordan’s largest nature reserve that is home to about 450 animal species and 800 plant species.
