Statistics showed that Jordan witnessed a remarkable increase in the number of tourists and better performance in the tourism sector during the period between January to November of 2018.

Jordanian Ministry Of Tourism and Antiquities released a statement showing that the number of overnight visitors increased by 8%, while the number of tour groups visiting the kingdom for a day rose by 26%. European countries ranked high on the number of overnight tourists, which increased by 28.1%, followed by the US by 19.3%, Asia and the Pacific Ocean by 19.1% and the Gulf countries by 10.0%.

The statement pointed out that according to the monthly bulletin issued by the Ministry, the sector’s performance indicates high growth rates during November 2018, and that the number of overnight tourists has increased highly, in comparison with the same period in 2017.

The total number of overnight tourists in 2018 increased by 9.4%, with 298,333 tourists, when compared to 272,654 tourists in 2017, while the increase in tour groups reached 40.1% over the same period of 2017.

Number of visitors to Jordanian archaeological sites witnessed a significant increase in visitors from Arab and foreign nationalities.

Statistics showed that visitors to Petra increased by 33.5%, Jerash 29.7%, Wadi Rum 35.4%, the Church of Saint George in Madaba by 42%, Mount Nebo 151.2% and the Baptism Site (also known as Al-Maghtas) by 39%.

Ticket sales from last year more than doubled, ammounting to JD 7,837,425 for the sale of 107,445 tickets, compared to the same period in 2017 where the total was JD 3,506,640 showing an increase by a whopping 123.5%.
