AMMAN — King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba welcomed 200,000 passengers in 2017, marking a 27.1 per cent increase, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Chief Commissioner Nasser Shraideh said that the increase was the result of “effective marketing”, which promoted air charters and new direct flight routes from Aqaba to different Arab destinations including Beirut, Cairo, and Dubai as well as international ones like Brussels, Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

The airport has also “witnessed an improvement in its infrastructure by a JD22 million Canadian support”, Shraideh said pointing out that “further reforms that enhance the airport’s halls and facilities will be carried out this year”.
